What is it: A mango is a tropical stone fruit with firm to soft orange flesh. There are many different varieties of this beautiful fruit and their colours vary too. Some change from green to rosy orange/red whilst others start yellow and end up orange.
What it smells like: A ripe mango will smell lovely and sweet. It will exude a fragrant, tropical and deliciously sweet aroma. Also make sure that you check near the stem end of the fruit. The smell will be stronger there.
Tips: Keep the mangoes out of the fridge and they’ll ripen faster, and taste better. They can be enjoyed all season long on their own or as part of a healthy meal. Half a mango contains only 60 calories so are healthy too.
Never buy a totally green mango as it may never ripen.
Avoid the fruit if it is very soft or bruised. The skin will give a little when ripe but never mushy.
